Recorded from lower level section 13 several rows up from the floor. I decided to do an experiment and try recording with a new setup using my trusty AudioTechnica/Sound Professionals mics into the iPhone. I'm not sure about this, so I thought I'd put it out there and see what others think. I've seen more recordings showing up that have been done on phones, so I thought I'd try it out on this show since I had a friend taping from a section in the middle level as a backup and also since I could get the soundboard as well. The Rode Reporter app is set to record at 48 kHz/24-bit. My ears can't hear the difference between 16 and 24-bit, but that's just me. In hindsight, I wish I had used both setups myself so I could get an accurate side-by-side comparison. This is one of those shows that to me sounded better with the earplugs because the few times I popped them out it sounded so bright and thin.
As for the show itself, I really thought the setlist was a nice balance between old and new material, and the production was excellent. The last time they played Indy, at the end of the show Lars asked the crowd if we wanted Metallica to come back more often than every five f*n' years. That was almost ten years ago. Hopefully, they'll be back around in less than a decade the next time. I haven't finished working on the other source, but if some folks want it as well I'll get it posted too. Enjoy!
