Main reason for me to attend the concert was a friend of mine who went to see Thin Lizzy in Vienna a few months before, and wanted to see Whitesnake, so I went with him, particularly to see these two bands, as I'm not that keen on Heavy Metal, although I like some early Priest stuff, and particularly 'Breaking the Law' and 'Living after Midnight'. I recorded it all anyway, as I'm sure there will be quite a few who will appreciate it! The Stadthalle was far from sold out, with almost all of the seats on the left and right curtained off, only the back seats were filled, which surprised me a bit, given the lineup...
We came in a little late from the Merchandise stand, so the Intro and first minute or so is missing, unfortunately! After 'Metal Gods' Rob welcomes the crowd with "Hello everybody....the Priest is back....look at all these Heavy Metal maniacs... is everybody ready for some Judas Priest style Heavy Metal? Are you ready, are you ready, is everybody ready?" Before 'Diamonds and Rust', a Joan Baez cover he tells "...we would look at other people's songs...you know they say that a good song is a good song is a good song, which means it'll take any kind of interpretation (...)". After Turbo Lover he says "Having a good time? Great music tonight...Lizzy, Snake, Priest, wonderful....you know, Judas Priest has been big in Heavy Metal for 40 years", the crows yells, and then he thanks the audience for their support over the years. Before 'The green Manalishi' he says "Okay, we had a little bit fun with Joan Baez, now it's time to do the same thing with Peter Green, who is the original founding member of Fleetwood Mac, ... he wrote some incredible songs...and here is the song that also got the Priest treatment..." and then announces the song title. Before 'Breaking the Law' he mentiones the Beatles ('fucking great band', changes the music', and 'believe it or not, there's Beatles fans in this bands') and the studio (Tittenhurst Park, home of John Lennon for some time) where they recorded 'British Steel'. He announces 'Breaking the Law' by asking the Audience "This is 'Breaking the WHAT?" to which the crowd responds with "Law!" three times before they start the song. He did not sing a single word, however, but lets the audience sing through the whole song! During 'Hell bent for Leather' a motorcycle was brought up on stage, and Rob had the Austrian flag wrapped around him, held it into the air a few times, and finally hung it on the motorbike. Introducing the second encore, the last song, he says "You know what, I think it's time for y'all for Living after..." and the crowd yells "Midnight!". In fact, it was still a few minutes before midnight, but who cares?! He starts the first verse with "I hit Vienna 1 am, loaded, loaded..." How to identify my recording: At the very beginning of 'Starbreaker' you can hear someone yelling "Yeeeaah" and another one, right after that, who mentiones the song title.
