The 2018 tour was officially called the Firepower World Tour, supporting their album Firepower. It began 13 March 2018 and ultimately ran until 29 June 2019, with 143 shows performed.
Just before the tour began, Glenn Tipton announced he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and could no longer perform full shows. Andy Sneap — who co-produced Firepower - stepped in as touring guitarist.
This was the first time since 1974 that Judas Priest toured without Tipton as a full-time member.
Tipton still made surprise appearances at select shows, this show included, to play classics like “Metal Gods,” “Breaking the Law,” and “Living After Midnight.”
Tipton’s Parkinson’s Foundation has become an important part of Judas Priest’s touring life since he stepped back from full-time performing in 2018. It’s not just a charity in his name - it’s woven into the band’s identity on the road. Whenever Judas Priest tours, Rob Halford and the band regularly talk about Glenn’s condition on stage, in interviews, and in press events as well as supporting the foundation through gear and memorabilia auctions and fundraising during the tour.
