This was night one of Metallica in Vancouver for their Full Arsenal tour. The tickets I managed to get sucked. I was in a corner for the first show in section 328. I was sort of in line with corner 'stacks'. Jim Breuer got the crowd hyped before Metallica came out. I knew to expect pyrotechnics, but they still startled me a bit the first night. I liked the electric chair with the Tesla coils.
One person near me thought it was all real and wanted their money back when they do the disaster bit. They started taking video with their cell phone while putting their other hand over their mouth in shock.
The recordings turned out a lot better than I had expected. There is a brief 2 second wrinkle in the tape during Ride the Lightning, a factory defect which I have seen in some tapes before. There were black Metallica beach balls thrown from the upper ring of the building during Seek & Destroy. Some people kept them and a lot of people threw them on stage. Kirk and Rob were throwing out handfulls of guitar picks and Lars would hold his drum sticks just out of reach of the people on the floor before handing them over. I was in the last row of my section, and behind me was a security box, so the sound kept travelling into this box, where security stood for most of the show. The second night's sound was better due to my location. Still, this is very accurate to what you could hear from where I was.
