For Guns N' Roses' second show at the Marquee a mobile studio had appeared outside Wardour Street to record the remaing two gigs of the band's three date run at the club. Just as previously, preceeding the show, band members stayed outside to chat with the fans and pose for pictures but it was the only time when Axl joined them. Dave, who travelled from Manchester for all three gigs remembers: "He seemed a little on edge. Though I heard he'd recently gone through a beating off the LA cops for killing a dog? He wrote the message "Don't kill dogs" on my Suicide EP." Tonight's show is eventful and finds the band literary on fire, in much better spirits than during their first night. GN'R are seemingly determined to impress and showcase that they are capable to go beyond expectations and manage to improve their performance despite the fact that hecklers still arise. The band romp through their opening set with a great tour de force. Opener 'Shadow Of Your Love' is full of sound and fury and the crowd becomes rapturous and, however, this in turn causes problem. During the performance similarly like three days ago somebody throws something at Axl which earns a quick "ASSHOLE!" in return from the singer. Apart from this and a few other yells, the crowd receives them with great admiration and the group give a truly outstanding performance. 'Out Ta Get Me' dominates with Axl sending down his spine chilling screams. After the song he shares his feelings about a recent article reviewing them which makes its impact on the following performance: "Hey, I wanna get into this right up in the set. You might have read a piece on us in Melody Maker... talking about a cunt called the scream, in LA... Well, that cock can suck my dick! ...and the guy who wrote the article in Melody Maker, I let him suck my dick I'll be too busy knockin' his teeth out! Alright! The song is called 'Anything Goes'!" Axl: "You might know this next song. This is our new single. This is called 'It's So Easy!'" The performance is again frantic and raucous cultivated with Slash's superb playing and Axl's ear-splitting vocal at the end. A true example of the band's potential in their prime. Before the following tune Axl takes on a fan, inviting him on stage to work out their differencies: "If you wanna come up here I ain't responsible for how badly you hurt. I love this face. Isn't he fuckin' great?! Maybe you turned yourrecord over!" 'Mr. Brownstone' is again guaranteed to sustain the audience's attention and is particularly grand. Axl introduces the next song reffering to its origin: "How many people have been trying to get drunk tonight? And you have been? This is a song about being in another turmoil. This is called being on the 'Nightrain'." Just as he finished speaking Slash snorts into the mic "Where's my fuckin' drink?!" and the performance awaits in which Axl again resonates his over-the-top vocals. 'Nightrain' is tense. In the beginning Axl warns the crowd, saying "Let's get ready!" Let's get ready now!" As 'My Michelle' starts Axl tells about his latest incident being kicked out of a store which occured during the day: "Anybody been to Tower Records? How 'bout their new security? Bunch of hundred age black guys and don't know what the fuck are they are doing. I attempted sitting down... Why can't they just fuckin' leave you alone, you know?!" Then right before the song erupts, he adds "This is called 'My Michelle' if you do too much cocaine!" The song is forceful and performed at high speed and high energy. "This is gonna be our next single. If we might be able to sneak it up here in this fuckin system. This is about going to a city for the first time. England, LA, Illinois, Tokyo... This is called 'Welcome To The Jungle'." Then suddenly adds at a bit lower voice, "Pull G, try 'MoveTo The City', fuck that!" which earns some laughter in the audience. After a solid performance Axl takes on his band: "I'd like to introduce these people! This is Slash! On the drums, you like that somebody? He's Mr. Steven Adler! On guitar over here we have Mr. Izzy Stradlin. And on the bass, the motherfucker, Mr. Duff "Rose" McKaganie! And this is called 'You're Fuckin' Crazy!'" The song is delivered at a remarkable pace, almost as though the band are determined to give all that there's in their stake. 'Paradise City' is particularly vicious and seems like a race to finish along with the enthusiastic crowd. Slash steals the performance with his extremely fast and accurate guitar playing with a rather fine sense of dynamics. The encore starts with Slash bursting into an impromptu guitar solo followed by 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' which finishes with the band encouraging the crowd for a sing-along. The performance shows signs of development comparing to its first attempt three days ago. As the band walks out the stage for a second encore, the crowd is more than enthusiastic by now and shout out requests at each of them to which Axl decides: "We gonna do you another cover. Now we did 'Mama Kin' last time, so who have been here by ticket, then you were... 'Nice Boys'." Similarly to their opening set, they're still tight and seems that they just took off. Their closing performance is shattering and a pure adrenaline rush. Axl: "Thank you! See on Sunday night! We're Crazy Guns N' Fuckin' Roses dammit!" By this time, if not for the first time, GN'R proved the hecklers, both present and in the press, that they're wrong. Their second Marquee performance testifies that they are in top form and seemingly can do no wrong. - Buda
