Yet another band, just like Iron Maiden, who prove time and time again that age is not a factor when it comes time to rock out and rock loud. I truly believe this is the loudest gig I have been to yet and for that, I'm glad to be wearing custom earplugs to enjoy the sonic goodness at a not-so-damaging level! :)
The boys were on fire. While the guitars were solid and definitely out there, their drummer (Mikkey Dee) played hard right through and put a lot of other rock drummers out there to shame for just his sheer energy and ferocity with which he played. It's been a while since I've seen a band with a drummer who can really get himself involved with the crowd and vice versa. They covered a broad range of their catalogue and never disappointed once.
As for the technical stuff, like I said, it was LOUD! At that kind of volume, don't expect a clean sound but it's still intelligible all the same. I give the recording a B- but I'll leave it to you to decide from the sample.
THERE IS A MAJOR WARNING ABOUT THIS RECORDING ABOVE ALL ELSE: Unfortunately, my batteries ran out close to the end of the show (Sony's battery level meters don't really account for lithium chemistry batteries when it comes to disposables). As a consequence, I only managed to just capture the 1st ending of five for Overkill. So in a way, it does sound complete but it really isn't, there's no beautiful feedback left behind by Lemmy dropping his bass in front of the speaker cabinets, no cheering to finish the show off with. I've learned my lesson well from this one.
So be your own judge, keep in mind that Navigator did release his complete version of the event and download wisely for your ratio's sake at least. Sorry guys!
