Dai2000's notes: All I can say is: 'WOW!'. This was my ninth time seeing Slash live, and I've never been disappointed. After booking my ticket during the presale back in February, the ticket generating program randomly selected a seat in the third row, putting me closer than I've ever been at the Pabst Theater. There is no gap or barricade between the front row and the stage, so that brought those of us in front even closer! When I arrived, the opening band had just started their set and they played until around 8:30 - this was a very energetic bunch, with a lead singer who was determined to get the audience on their feet and clapping their hands. He even jumped into the crowd to get things livened up! They left the stage and Slash's people quickly set up and tuned up guitars, with the band taking the stage around 9:10 or so. The crowd erupted when Myles and Slash appeared on stage and the band let loose on new song 'Call Of The Wild'. I saw the band, earlier in the tour, last year in New Buffalo, and since that show the setlist has changed up some - with some new songs shuffled in - 'Boulevard Of Broken Hearts' is my favourite song of the new album so it was great to hear it live. Something which Slash and the band does so well are the extended instrumental jams which occur during some of their songs, the highlight of the evening (for me) being the song 'Wicked Stone'. I recall being blown away by this one in New Buffalo last year and was thrilled to hear the opening riffs as they rang out in the Pabst. The song which followed ultimately ended up being 16 minutes of song and soloing combined. Slash wandered to the left side of the stage for most of the instrumental part and while he was just hammering it out on guitar, the rest of the band, Myles Kennedy included, stood closer to the drums playing in accompaniment. This was a sight to behold and the crowd loved it! I could go on and on about how much I loved the set, but the music speaks for itself. There was one Guns N' Roses cover, Nightrain, which obviously was popular with the crowd. With four albums under their belts, and especially with Slash playing 3 hour+ shows with Guns, that allows this band to concentrate on Conspirator material, which I think is awesome. The band itself is very tight and very animated on stage. After the show, Slash tossed guitar picks into the crowd and setlists where quickly distributed. A crowd formed at the stage door, next to the tour buses, waiting for a glimpse of the band as they emerged. After an hour of the 6 or 7 security staff repeatedly telling everyone that Slash had already left on the "other bus", followed by Slash's bodyguard, who came out, pointed at the road and said 'there goes Ace Frehley, Sebastian Bach and Gilby Clark', Slash finally emerged and signed a handful of autographs for the eager crowd. Myles Kennedy came out shortly after, signed a few autographs and then boarded the bus. Shortly afterwards that night, Slash shared a photo of himself with Ace Frehley, Sebastian Bach, GIlby Clarke and others, leading me to wonder if they had actually just driven past the Pabst Theater! This is my third outing with the new cardoid mics and battery box, and I have to say that I'm very happy with the recordings thus far. Mr Chickenwing, over to you buddy! Work your magic!
Chickenwing's notes: This is a very neat recording, and I love the new mics. Some movement occurs throughout, resulting in some fluctuations, but I did some work to equalize the recording in general and balance the channels. This is a solid tape of a great and energetic show from Slash near the end of this tour! Myles is pitching some of his vocal parts down, but it doesn't detract from the show at all and Todd makes up for it. I love that he's getting more recognition as the SMKC career progresses, and I hope he sings more in future tours. Myles asks the crowd to cheer for the opening act, Joyous Wolf, and it turns out I am familiar with them! I saw them in Louisville a couple of years ago when they were unsigned, and they put on a decent show. Fantastic way to kick off the evening!
