Notes of George: I decided to share this particular recording, not only for the rarity of it. but for the story that connects the traders past. My copy came from a taper/collector named Tom Golub from the New Jersey area, that i found in 1999. He had literally 10,000 tapes. This guy wasn't online. He was still doing trades the old school way, with printed out text lists. (remember those days??) I was actually looking for B.B. King tapes (which i specialize in). Over the course of a few months, we traded about 25 tapes. and one of them was this GnR show. I grabbed it up, solely for the reason that i attended and was looking for a different source (other than mine, which hasn't been circulated yet). He said it had some tape warble on Side B and wasn't the greatest quality. eitherway i got it. Tom later tells me that he's planning on taping B.B. King in Dec 99 and Jan 00. I'm happy to hear that and ask him to send me 1st gens when he has time. So months go by and i never hear back from him. by the end of 2000 i still don't hear back from Tom. I just assume he's busy and has forgotten about me. I don't think anymore about it. so fast forward ahead about 10 years and i decide to look Tom up again. I look and look and can't seem to find him anywhere, then i stumble upon a obituary that reads , Tom died of a heart attack running a 5k race in the spring of 2000. It was quite a shock to learn that was why i never heard back from him. Tom's tape collection was very massive and i can only wonder what happened to it all. Even knowing he recorded shows right up to the time he past away. so this GnR tape comes from his collection whom he got from the taper. If anybody remembers Tom Golub, I'd like to hear from you. This is just an example why it's so important to get your tapes out to the masses before it's too late.
